Long-term unemployed set to gain from new supermarket. Tesco jobs will be available in Hednesfod once the store is ready to operate.
The building of the new Tesco supermarket in Hednesford is on track, following approval of the development by Cannock Chase Council in June. The 85,000 sq ft site is a major element of a multi-million pound regeneration in the area and should be finished by the end of 2012. The structure has been designed with space efficiency in mind, with the supermarket built above the car park.
The full project includes a car park with more than 600 spaces, a number of other shops, a community centre and a shopping kiosk. A new bus stop will ensure that there are good transport links to the new facilities.
The work, which the town council believes will have a hugely positive effect on the area and other local shops, is the final stage in the infrastructure project. The previous stage of the project included the creation of four retail units, which face the other structures currently being built.
The supermarket giant is expected to create hundreds of jobs when the new supermarket opens and has vowed to offer a third of the vacancies to the long-term unemployed.
