Dear HR,
I would be pleased if you would consider my application for the position of merchandiser which was advertised in the Evening Post last week.
I do have some five years’ experience as a merchandiser, but I understand that this vacancy is a little more senior than my current position and involves more travelling. I very rarely visit suppliers as they have been providing our store with products for many years. I have, obviously increased the number of suppliers over the years and went to see them regularly for the first few months.
Unfortunately, our store is under some financial constraints, along with many other retail companies. This has hampered my ability to find new suppliers in the recent months.
You have several regional stores and I welcome the opportunity to visit them on a regular basis to discuss sales promotions and stock levels etc. I note that you provide a company car and I can confirm that I have a clean driving licence.
I have enclosed a copy of my CV together with additional details regarding my degree in marketing. I feel sure that I could make a positive contribution to your company.
I am available for an interview at any date suitable for you. I hope to hear from you in due course.
Yours faithfully

Dear Mr Hopeful
RE: MERCHANDISER VACANCY
I am writing regarding the vacancy for a Merchandiser I saw advertised in (name paper/website), and I would like to outline my skills, qualities and interest in the position.
At present I am working in retail (change if necessary) and I am extremely interested in this role and what it involves. Although my current role involves the general layout of stock, keeping it in order, tidiness and customer care, I would like to continue my career in a merchandising role as I am particularly interested in trends and analysing sales information, finding out what sells, what doesn’t etc.
I am an organised person with the background in working in a retail environment combined with my enthusiasm to learn and do my job well, I believe I can use this to increase sales and achieve targets at (company name). I have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and would be able to deal with order/stock enquiries with retail buyers and staff at all levels.
I am also interested in the setting up of sales and promotions and would be willing to attend any training necessary to ensure I was carrying out my role to the very best of my ability.
I have attached my CV for your information, however if you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me on (number).
I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours sincerely (faithfully if Dear Sir/Madam)
