My partner, who claims job seekers for our family, was supposed to start a TGB course today. Unfortunately I’ve been to the hospital today to see if I’m epileptic and due to being pregnant, they can’t run all the tests to confirm whether I have it or not. The doctor who saw me has said that I’m now allowed to be left on my own at any point for the safety of my daughter and bump.
What worries me is that TBG have said that if my boyfriend doesn’t do this course it will affect our benefits. This is money we depend on to be able to feed our daughter and ensure she’s clothed etc. What will happen if he calls TBG tomorrow and tells them he has to stay here instead of attending the course because of what the doctor told us? Will they stop the money coming in or will they be understanding?
I expect that the benefits you are referring to are Job Seekers Allowance? Whether or not your boyfriend attends the TGB course will not affect your Tax Credits or Child Allowance.
You should contact Jobcentre Plus on 0800 055 6688 to discuss the issues. I suggest that you obtain a doctor’s note with all the relevant details of their recommendation, and specifically stating that you should not be left on your own. If you give the impression that your boyfriend is keen to go to the training, but circumstances do not allow, they are more likely to be understanding – perhaps rearrange a date to start the training.
I hope this helps, and good luck!
