I am a 53 year old male looking for work and have been since 2008. I have a criminal record (for indecent exposure) and am finding it impossible to find work in this town. My last offence was 2005 and as a result of that I had to attend a 3-year Probation Service Rehabilitation course. This made me stand up to what impact my behaviour was having on my victims and I have not re-offended since. My problem is how do I put my past behind me if no employer will give me a chance to prove myself? All I am looking for is a basic filing/admin office position either part time or full time. I had a couple of interviews last year and the only feedback I could get back was that they had a high calibre of applicants. How does that help me? I have an ECDL (Level 2) Microsoft applications qualification (2006) and am computer savvy but can’t seem to get out of this rut! I would appreciate any help/advice to move forward. I also have several years office administration experience but this doesn’t seem to help me because of my record.
I would advise looking at your cover letter and state on it that you are reformed.
