Last updated : 15 September 2012
Waitrose will open its new store in Cowbridge on schedule on 1 November and will create 140 jobs as a result.
The supermarket chain has chosen to open just after a local food and drink festival, which Waitrose has now sponsored.
Waitrose stated that it has been delighted to receive more than 700 applications for the available jobs and is now conducting interviews. Those who are offered jobs will begin their training on 15 October and will become partners in the John Lewis Partnership, which gives staff a share of the profits via an annual bonus. The company’s spokesperson added that this year’s bonus had amounted to seven weeks’ wages.
The Cowbridge store manager emphasised the company’s commitment to hire local people so that each store reflects the community in which it is located. He stated that Waitrose had aimed for a long time to have a store in Cowbridge and that the company has been pleased by its welcome to the town.
Waitrose will attend the Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival the weekend before the store opening and will distribute information about its product range and get to know local people. The company stated that the festival was an ideal opportunity to promote its brand and range.
