London-based foreign exchange specialist Travelex has been chosen as the new exclusive provider of foreign currency at Manchester Airport.
The company’s bid for the lucrative contract issued by Manchester Airport Group was approved and it will now take over 13 of the existing foreign currency exchange stores at the airport.
Investment will be focused on redeveloping the stores, which are currently operated by International Currency Exchange and Thomas Cook.
According to Travelex the firm will retain all the current employees, as well as create 12 new jobs.
More temporary construction roles could also be created with the firm set to replace the existing 33 ATMs, adding another nine machines as well as four exclusive cash-to-cash exchange machines a first for the airport.
The multi-currency machines, which will be available 24 hours a day, can each dispense up to four different currencies.
Travelex spokesperson Elvin Eldić said:
“As well as bringing more competitive rates to two important British airports, we hope to make the journeys of millions of travellers faster and less stressful.â€
Beth Brewster, Manchester Airport’s retail director, added:
“We are pleased to be working together to facilitate the growth of pre-ordering with an online price guarantee and a joint marketing strategy to really compete with the high street offer.â€
