Many people often get to a stage in their career where they feel they would rather be working and accountable for themselves and decide to work on a Freelance basis. If you work as a Freelancer you find your own work through utilising the skills and experience you have already gained.
People work as a Freelancer for many reasons:
#1 Fed up of working for someone else
People work for a variety of reason but it could be that they just want to work for themselves and see the rewards and benefits for themselves rather than seeing someone else reap the rewards.
#2 Flexibility around working hours
Depending on the roles that you are doing freelance depends on what flexibility you have but you will be planning your own work load so to some degree you are flexible in that regard so are not just restricted to working 9-5.
#3 Locations
You can choose what locations you work and whether you work remotely from a home office or whether you are needed on a client site. At times you may be needed to work at a client site and indeed a lot of people do just this, however people are working more and more remotely from their home offices very successfully.
#4 Variation of work
The variety of work that you do is purely down to you. In the early stages of freelancing you may do a big mixture of things to get going but as time goes on you will stop and focus on what you feel is important and what you enjoy doing as your own business.
#5 Rewarding and Challenging
Working on a Freelance basis can be very rewarding. It is the same principal of someone starting up their own business just as a Freelance worker you tend to work on your own in your business. It is important to remember that it’s not all plain sailing and that if you work for yourself and require a certain amount of money to be able to survive each week or month then you need to be prepared to put in the hard work and that also means allowing for quieter periods when you are not working or not getting the volume of work.
#6 Skills
Being freelance and working for yourself means that you can re train and learn new skills in whatever takes your fancy where as if you work for someone else you need to get training approved and it be within the budget and relevant to the role that you are doing at the time.
#7 Don’t need to work full time
You may consider working freelance at a time in your life when you no longer need to
work full time so by going freelance gives you the flexibility to do a couple of projects to keep some money coming in and keep your skills fresh but that you are not committed to doing the same role day in day out.#8 Increasing your income
You may already work full time for an employer but consider working freelance in your own time to boost your income whilst doing something that you enjoy. Increasingly more and more people enter into the world of freelancing in this manner.
#9 Holidays
Working freelance means that you approve your holiday times yourself. Don’t be fooled though that for the period that you are not working you will not be getting paid but at least you will not have your holiday rejected through a company system.
#10 Talents
You may think that you are good at an area that in your current employment you do not get to develop. By working freelance you can make those decisions yourself and can develop your own talents at your own pace.
