TK Maxx revives job hopes for empty Shrewsbury site
TK Maxx will create a number of jobs in Shropshire when it opens a new store in Shrewsbury in the spring of 2013.
The retail giant will move into a site that was previously occupied by Focus DIY at the town’s Meole Brace Retail Park. A spokesperson for the company stated that it would provide information on vacancies in the run up to the opening of the store.
The new store will be the second for TK Maxx in the town. One of the local councillors stated that he was very pleased and that the news was welcome during the current economic times. He added that Shrewsbury should encourage all types of businesses to invest in the town and that local people would enjoy the additional choice.
The site had previously lain empty since May 2011, when Focus DIY had been forced to close and make 51 people redundant. Administrators had attempted to find a buyer from within the DIT store’s competitors for the branch but had been unsuccessful.
Famous as a value designer brand retailer, TK Maxx has been in the UK for almost 20 years and has more than 230 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
