Last updated : 3 March 2019
A new logistics hub costing £100m will built at Manchester Airport creating more than 1,800 jobs.
The project will see the world-class centre offer up to 1.4m sq ft of cargo space for freight companies, giving businesses unrivalled access to air and motorway links.
John Atkins Manchester Airport Groups’s Airport City director said that the expansion would increase employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in the north west region.
The region currently produces 60 per cent of British industrial output.
The project will create the new permanent posts over a 10 to 15 year period, in addition to more temporary construction posts while the task is completed.
Construction is expected to begin before the end of the year with airport chiefs planning on capitalising on the region’s industrial reputation to attract firms from around the world.
Projected figures show that over 2 million sqft of extra space will be added creating up to 20,000 new vacancies in the area in the next 15 years.
Mr Atkins added;
“This scheme will create a sustainable commercial product of international significance that will provide high quality and well-connected logistics facilities with access to the global marketplace.”
