Rejunevation plans for Pontefract Tesco are axed
The potential for 200 new Tesco jobs at the new store in Pontefract have been lost as Tesco chiefs scrap their proposals for a new £40m store in the town. Councilors in Wakefield stated they were ‘bitterly disappointed’ as the news was announced.
Tesco had originally proposed to rejuvenate their current Stuart Road store, creating 200 new jobs in Pontefract, but have axed these plans after a company decision to limit new developments in the UK. Instead they will concentrate on international ventures.
Wakefield councilors were hoping the proposals for the Stuart Road Tesco store would be the start of regeneration in the town, but are now looking for other investors ‘to get the town back on track again.’
