Tesco to create 20 new jobs when they take over closed pub premises in Yeovil
The Pickety Witch, Yeovil was closed for good during the summer. It was hoped by residents that a new owner would be found to re-open the pub to offer traditional pub services.
Tesco have proposed to move into the premises with a new Tesco Express store which will provide 20 full and part time jobs for the town.
The new use of the derelict has received mixed emotions with many residents grateful for the additional jobs but mourning the loss of their local services.
Tesco will not require planning permission to change the use of the site from a pub to a supermarket. The new store is proposed to be open from 7am until 10 or 11pm seven days per week.
Many pubs these days are closing down (think the smoking ban has had a major effect, as has the price of beer!) – its good that someone is going to take over the building and make some use of it, and at the same time offer new jobs – great
To be honest, I’d rather have a Tesco than a pub, but I can understand why residents may not be happy about it.
Part-time opportunities are also great for single mothers and people who may have another part-time job already. Many positions are full-time and usually the part-time positions are much more scarce.
