Tesco to Create 150 Jobs in Bantry, Co Cork
The building of a €10m Tesco store in Bantry, Co Cork, is likely to commence in the first quarter of this year following the granting of planning permission for the 25,000 sq ft facility on an eight-acre site at Newtown.
The developers plan this new Tesco to be open by next Christmas and it is estimated that as many as 150 full-and part-time jobs will be created when the outlet is fully operational, adding €3m in wages into the local economy every year.
A recent survey showed that 46% of local people did their shopping outside of Bantry and the new Tesco store is hoped will help stop the outflow of shoppers from the town and be a channel for other future development in the area.
Tesco is the largest purchaser of Irish food and drink, buying €1.5bn per year from its Irish suppliers. This new store will help local producers and secure jobs in rural food and drink industries as well.
The move has been widely welcomed in the town as Bantry needs additional jobs at this time when the country is trying to come out of the economic and financial crisis.
Oh this sounds like great news for Bantry. If there isnt one in the town already then it certainly is a good idea, especially as it will keep people shopping in the town rather than travelling to other places to shop
