Last updated : 4 March 2019
Tesco has announced their plans to open a new store in Ashtead which will create job vacancies. This new store will be a Metro type and operate at particularly high volume times in the days.
The place has limited space in front so there won’t be a rear entrance, trolleys and a dedicated car park however customers will be able to use The Memorial Hall’s car park.
The company will try to arrange on-site parking for staff and customers. However concerns are still existing about staff and customer parking and deliveries.
The retail giant has an Express store (Craddocks Parade) just down the street, a mile away so local residents think that the new one will be unnecessary.
The metro store will open very soon creating around 65 jobs. Local residents also said that the Craddocks Parade staff are not local and they want this Tesco Metro to employ mostly locals.
Tesco’s corporate affairs manager Simon Petar told:
“Tesco listened very carefully to comments from councillors, customers, residents and local supporters and has revised the proposal to reflect these.”
