Council to consider new commercial development in Lynn
Hundreds of new jobs will be created in Lynn if a joint bid by Tesco and Dobbies Garden Centres is approved by West Norfolk Council.
The initial plans, which include a hotel, pub and car showroom, have received a positive response from planning officers if certain conditions are met and legal agreements put in place. Reports indicate that the proposal would regenerate a vacant location on Lynn’s main street and that the Tesco and Dobbies units would be the first stage of the overall development.
It is anticipated that the full development would create almost 900 full-time equivalent jobs, with a net increase of almost 600 jobs by the end of the project.
The planning report indicates that road widening and the building of a link road have been proposed as part of the development, with an improved junction or roundabout being required for satisfactory access to the new stores. More than 1,000 parking spaces would be created – almost double the number of spaces currently available.
No objections have been received to date but the nearby B&Q has requested a guarantee that traffic on the road would be allowed enough time to get through the traffic light system. Planning officers have responded by saying that all concerns will be considered.
