Last updated : 28 September 2012
Tesco are to create 350 full time and part time jobs in Greenwich.
Job seekers in the Greenwich area are being encouraged to apply for 350 jobs that will be created with the opening of a new Tesco supermarket in Woolwich in November.
The retail giant has also announced that 100 of the available jobs will be reserved for those who are long-term unemployed to give the local economy a boost. Applications are open until 5 October and can be picked up at the Old Library in Woolwich and the Work And Learn Centre in Greenwich.
The store opening is one of the phases of an ambitious development programme in Woolwich, in which hundreds of new homes will be built throughout 2013 and 2014.
A local councillor expressed delight at the opening of the new store and declared that it was good news for the local economy and employment. A spokesman for Tesco added to this by stating that the company was proud to be liaising with Greenwich Local Labour & Business to deliver jobs in the area and provide work for those who have not had a job for some time.
More general information on employment opportunities in the area can be found at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/gllab.
Great news for Greenwich! Plenty of jobs with the new Tescos, hope the local people applied and were successful. Its lovely when a company says it will offer locally first (providing it does of course)
If you’re ever planning or hoping to apply for a job in a new store, start doing it as soon as possible. Usually they’ll advertise vacancies well before the store is actually opening, but hurry up because lots of people have that same idea!
