Last updated : 16 September 2012
A jobs fair in Swindon was described as a success as more than 1,000 jobseekers turned up to apply for jobs with local businesses.
Double the previous year’s size, the event was sponsored by Select Appointments and was attended by companies such as Travelport, Honda and Audley, recruitment agencies and further education colleges.
A spokesperson for Select Appointments expressed a pleasant surprise by the response to the event and stated that many job seekers suited the posts that it was advertising on behalf of its clients. The recruitment manager at Honda agreed that the day had been a positive experience for the company and the general feedback from the companies was that the quantity and quality of job seekers were very positive.
Another organisation, Utility Warehouse, was also able to offer full-time and part-time self-employment opportunities and stated that it had received a lot of interest from those attending.
Job seekers who attended agreed that job fairs makes the job hunting process easier and that the companies were helpful, although one visitor commented that the event would have been better if more employers had attended. However, a spokesperson for the event stated that the number of companies attending had doubled since the previous year.
