Last updated : 11 June 2014
Sports Direct are pleased to announce that they are opening a new store in the units which have been unused for a period of a few years at the St Catherine’s Retail Park which is now being redeveloped following a significant amount of investment.
The electrical retailer, Comet went into administration nearly 18 months ago and Sports direct have taken on the premises that Comet had. Sports Direct is the latest store to come to the newly developed retail park which opened its doors on Sunday. Sports Direct was based on Perth’s High Street and now has a larger store on Dunkeld Road.
The new sports direct store will be 13,000 square foot and will offer the same services and products as in the other store but will also have the space to include a specialist outdoor area including football and golfing equipment and to be able to provide advice on running.
Sport Direct continues to grow throughout the UK and they pride themselves on offering their customers the biggest brands for all sportswear, footwear and sports equipment at low prices. They are not the only businesses to want to move to the newly developed St Catherine’s Retail Park. Other retailers interested in the site are electronics giant Maplin who have invested 250,000 in a unit which has helped to create 12 jobs and the national chain Benson for beds also opened a new store earlier in the year.
The site owners, Episo Boxes Ltd have now gained permission to modify the consent on the units and can now sell convenience goods including food. Now that this is more relaxed, they are currently finalising a deal with Home Bargains to join the site as well as other businesses currently under discussion.
Also in the retail park, Curry’s is moving into the PC World store as they have new ambitious plans including a new gym, a restaurant etc. They also have plans to sub divide the old B&Q store into a further five retail units.
