When looking at different salaries, you need to look at your location (where you live) and the company you are either with or looking to join to get a realistic comparison of what salary you should be paid.
Location plays a big part in a person’s salary. For example, people in the South are normally paid more due to cost of living expenses being higher. You will also be paid differently depending on how many employees a company has, for example:
It seems that an average salary for a Social Media Executive is £24,000 per annum but this is again dependent on experience, location and size and type of company.
In Social Media Executive roles , a company that has between 1-9 employees could pay you £24,025 (on average) where as a company with 200-599 employees could pay you (on average) £29,142. (Facts and Figures from Pay Scale 2013)
It seems that there is also a male female divide when salaries are concerned and as we would always expect there is a vast difference dependent on your length of service.
If salaries are very different it seems that companies are giving more bonuses and benefits to compensate for this which allows those who want to work hard and do well to show that they truly can do this and get rewarded at the end.
It seems that in the social media world that some roles have had salary decreases over the past few years and it seems that marketing assistants and those in communications roles are less likely to receive a pay rise. Food for thought when choosing your career path!
It seems that the best way forward is to specialise, get as qualified as you can in your area of choice, and keep as up to date on new trends, technology and terminology such as the digital sector where there is a lack of depth of experience, and that way you stand out from a very large growing crowd.
