There are a wide range of Sheffield City Council jobs. A few examples of the variety of occupations employed by the council are teachers, educational psychologists, cooks, pollution control technicians, traffic planners, curators, lifeguards, social workers, solicitors, and IT programmers. But there may be problems on the horizon. A BBC article earlier this year stated that as much as 1,000 Sheffield council employees could lose their jobs over the next three to five years.
And Sheffield is not the only city in the UK with the sort of gloomy news. Other local authorities have indicated they may also have to axe a number of their council jobs. The article said that local authorities were planning cuts because they anticipated a fall in government funding. Sheffield is hoping to save £18m during the period these cuts are expected to take place. But for the time being, it is probably good news to note that the council is still hiring. At the time this article was written, there were 18 job adverts on the council’s general vacancies webpage. On the council’s school vacancies webpage, the number of job adverts shot up to 91.
