Sainsbury’s have announced that they will soon be opening a new store in the Gwendraeth Valley after they have successfully purchased the site at Cross Hands.
The news of the new store opening has been welcomed by the Council who thinks it is brilliant new for business and for Cross Hands as a while. They said that a bit of competition would do the area some good and keep food prices down in the area.
The Council Leader Mr Madge said he thought it was very good news that Sainsbury’s wanted to come to Carmarthenshire and that he wanted to thank Sainsbury’s for coming to the area and going to make a huge difference all round. Mr Madge sincerely hopes that the new store goes from strength to strength in the area.
The new Sainsbury’s store is going to be in the Cross Hands West section, which is opposite Cross Hands East, the strategic employment site where the contractors Alun Griffiths Ltd are working and have been since April.
They are undergoing all the preparation work now that the site has been purchased and there is a lot to be done before the development work can start. The schedule for development is a long way off so at the moment they are unable to say when the new store will be opening but as soon as they know how long the development is going to take they will announce the opening for the local residents.
The positives of building such a large store for the area means that the 200 jobs that are going to be newly created can be taken by the local residents should they want a career within Sainsbury’s. In discussions with the local job centre and apparently there is already a lot of interest in working with them in these new roles which is very promising from Sainsbury’s perspective.
