Last updated : 13 June 2011
Sainsburys to create 200 new jobs at Chipping Norton, London Road, Oxfordshire if the new store get approval. Consultations took place over the weekend so that Sainsbury’s could take on feedback from the local community before deciding whether to continue with the proposal and drawing up a planning application.
If the 30,000 sq. ft. store goes ahead then a variety of jobs in a mix of full and part time positions would be created. The 200 Oxfordshire jobs on offer at Sainsbury’s would include full and part time jobs in customer services, stock control along with some management positions.
The Town Mayor of Chipping Norton, Chris Butterworth, was hesitant about the actual site that has been chosen by Sainsbury’s for the scheme as it is in very close proximity to a school and could affect sales in the high street. The mayor did, however, welcome the 200 new jobs that would be created if the new Sainsbury’s get the go ahead.
“The idea is to build a store which is 80 per cent food and 20 per cent non-food items. One of the main concerns is that the 20 per cent of non-food sales could detract sales from the town centre. However we hope that people who come to do their shopping at the new site would then move down into the town centre and use the shops there. But of course we would welcome the addition of all these news jobs,†said Mayor Butterworth.
