Progress on BT jobs growth in Accrington
BT has begun its recruitment drive for 300 new call centre positions in Accrington in East Lancashire, with over 70 posts already filled, and has announced that it is scheduled to open its new premises in October.
The move comes as a positive investment in the town as the opening will essentially replace a previous call centre on the site, which unfortunately closed in 2010 and made 250 people redundant.
The hiring activities have taken quite some time to get going but it is hoped that the company will make further job offers to successful applicants very soon. A spokesperson for BT said that recruitment for the call centre was proceeding well and that the company was pleased with the response to the available posts and the quality of the applications. However, it is expected that the recruitment phase will continue for the next six months or so.
The Chief Executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce welcomed the jobs boost and stated that the organisation was working hard to grow the area’s service sector. He added that he hoped many young people would see the call centre as a good career opportunity.
