Nursery Nurse Salary
As a nursery nurse you will be caring for young children and babies. You would be helping them learn and develop their skills in this early stage in their life. Dealing with lots of small children can be loud, stressful and exhausting so you need to have patience in abundance. You would need a proactive and mature attitude and be very responsible. The ability to work under pressure and deal with emergency situations would be essential. You would need to be firm but fair in your approach and have excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with children, colleagues and parents.
Some GCSEs are preferable but this depends on the establishment. You will need a Criminal Records Bureau check completed to be able to work closely with children. Some courses allow you to work in a placement whilst completing a certificate like the Level 2 and Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Certificate. There are also apprenticeships available which you can find out more about by asking your local council.
A nursery nurse has a varied role which can include reading, arts and craft activities, counting exercises, playing and role playing and music. You will also need to liaise with parents, write reports and even perform health and safety checks.
Starting salary: £10,000 – £12,000
Experienced salary: £14,000 – £18,000
Senior salary: £25,000 -£38,000

One of my relatives is a nursery nurse, and absolutely loves it. The salary isn’t brilliant, but you don’t need a degree to do this. Obviously, you need to have some kind of childcare qualification, which usually takes about 2 years at college after school.
