US investment will bring hundreds of jobs to Limerick
American financial services firm Northern Trust is set to create 400 new jobs in Limerick in Ireland over the next five years.
The investment, which will see the company’s workforce double, was welcomed by Ireland’s Jobs Minister. The company’s plan will involve liaising with the Limerick Institute of Technology and the University of Limerick to recruit graduates to fill the vacancies. A spokesperson for Northern Trust stated that it was confident that both institutions would be able to supply excellent candidates for its recruitment programme.
It is expected that the company will need to hire for finance, administration, IT, traditional and hedge fund accounting and financial reporting roles.
The current Limerick office employs 300 staff and offers support and advice to investment managers and pension funds. The company has locations in 18 US states and operates in 16 different countries, looking after assets of more than $4 trillion and managing investments in the billions.
This and other types of employment initiatives are being supported by IDA Ireland. The country’s Finance Minister stated that the investment will hopefully encourage other similar businesses to locate to Ireland and bring even more jobs to the financial services sector.
