Last updated : 19 December 2012
New Tesco store has been given the go ahead in Doncaster which will create 130 new jobs.
The supermarket will be built on Omega Boulevard, Thorne Park and include a petrol station and coffee shop within the store.
Tesco has advised that the new 130 vacancies will go first to local people, where jobs are known as offering great pay and benefits packages and a pension scheme, staff discounts and free shares for employees.
The developers, Henry Boot Developers, originally secured planning permission for the construction of a supermarket in 2011 on the site near Selby Road and M18, which was previously used as a car storage area.
The final design of the site are currently being finalised but includes 4181 square metres supermarket, a 100 room hotel, 2 restaurant units, office space and a 20,000 square metre business park.
A public drop-in session will be held next month for those interested in the details of the plan to review the plans and meet representatives. Details will be advised shotly.
I think its great for Doncaster, much needed jobs, and the promise that they will be offered to local people first – Tescos are great for this, it means the local people have jobs and the economy locally benefits
It’s very good that they’re offering jobs to local people first. I think it’s a bit silly sometimes when people are travelling an hour, in some situations, to get to work at Tesco or Asda when so many of the people within a mile of the store are jobless.
