Last updated : 11 January 2013
Work is underway on a new Sainsbury’s Local store due to open under the Travelodge building in Maidenhead town centre.
Builders are now operational inside the King Street unit and the supermarket has said the fitting out of the store should be complete within six weeks.
The opening date is likely to be Wednesday February 20, and there will be around 20-25 new full and part-time jobs created at the store.
The new Sainsbury’s Local will offer a range of fresh, frozen and general groceries and is conveniently situated to allow both local residents and commuters to top up their usual shop or pick up dinner on the way home from work.
The unit under the Travelodge hotel was originally intended for restaurant/bistro use, but very little serious interest was expressed by any local businesses. A council report reveals that at one point Nandos offered only half the current asking price for it, but at a later date withdrew its offer.
