Last updated : 14 August 2012
Hi there,
A friend of mine has gotten a great offer for a job overseas.
The problem is the job agency is demanding a massive fee that the overseas company isn’t willing to pay.
The agency refuse to lower their fee.
Is there anything she can do?!
It seems insane that a job agency is barring her from taking a great job because they’re demanding too much money to “release her.”
Thanks!
Alex.
I don’t think this is actually legal! They can ask for fees from the company (usually a percentage of the new employees first year’s salary) but demanding a release fee is extortion and she should seek specialist legal advice. Don’t pay anything up front: it could be a scam.
