Last updated : 13 June 2014
Morrisons have unveiled their plans to open a new store in Merstham as part of an exciting re development plan for the town. The new store will be on the old site of the former Iron Horse pub which will have a Morrisons M Convenience store and 3 other shops and ten flats.
The local council have said that by having a Morrisons M local store there will give the residents and locals of Merstham easier access to essential groceries and fresh produce at affordable prices. They are also looking forward to the employment opportunities that it is going to provide for the local people and these were very important considerations when deciding who the best convenience store should be in this area.
It has been a long standing rumour that Morrisons will be coming to the Merstham area and the plans are in the very early stages but the new store is looking to be creating 20 new jobs in the area and work is rumoured that it could be beginning in January. They are in the very early stages of this planning and look forward to creating 20 new jobs for local people and offering them to chance to have fresh produce and they feel that it will make a positive addition to the local community.
The process that Morrisons have to go through to acquire this site is a bidding process and this needs to be done and agreed before Morrisons can be allowed access. The site is still subject to planning permission being acquired and will be discussed in July.
There are still other talks about who will lease the other three shops and there are four new units planned on the Triangle site and well underway and further announcements about this will be made in due course.
