Last updated : 4 March 2019
The approval has been given to the Mersey Gateway Bridge prjoect which means 5,000 job vacancies on the way. The project will connect Runcorn and Widnes.
Experts say that the bridge will cost about £2 billion and it will be dual 3 lane once it’s finished. Winner of the auction will run the bridge for 30 years after completing the construction so we can understand that there will be a fee to use this bridge! However the people who lives nearby will benefit from the discounts.
How many construction jobs to be created?
Over 500 job vacancies will be available to work on constructions. In general there will be 5,000 job vacancies will be offer until up to 2016.
The bids for job hasn’t been reviewed yet. It will take about 18 months to review the bids and select the right company for the project.
Halton MP Derek Twigg says;
Ideally I would like no charge for local residents but it doesn’t look like that is going to be possible in the current financial climate.
“We’ve got to try and find the best deal for local people and I will be pushing for that and I know the other councillors in Halton want to try and achieve that as well.
“We’ve got to look at the figures, look at the money now, and come 2016 when it plans to be open we will need to take account of the situation then as well.
