New wines store means new jobs in Basingstoke
Majestic Wines has opened a new store – its 185th in the UK – in the centre of Basingstoke. The retailer has created a purpose-built building to offer a wide range of wine to customers in the town.
The company has seen its annual turnover increase to just over £280 million and profits rise by 14%. And, despite having already opened 16 new stores in the last twelve months, the company’s goal is to have 300 outlets in the UK. Initiatives such as reducing the minimum purchase for customers have helped Majestic Wines to expand and increase its workforce.
The new store manager said that he was really pleased with the store’s central location and adjacent car park for customer convenience. The company stated that it had opened in Basingstoke due to demand, as records had indicated that customers in the town had been purchasing regularly from stores in nearby towns or online.
All of the store’s new employees have qualifications from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and are excited by the other services that the store will offer, including special events, wine tasting and courses.
A celebratory tasting weekend to mark the opening of the store will take place until 16 September.
