Last updated : 13 September 2012
A jobs fair in Llanelli, organised by a new organisation designed to help people find job, training or education opportunities, attracted more than 1,000 visitors. The organisation, called Un Sir Gar, succeeded in bringing companies such as Poundworld, B&Q, Gwalia, Asda and Village Home Care together to discuss details of 100 new jobs with local people at Llanelli Library.
Representatives from the Army and Navy distributed information and gave advice on a career in the armed forces. In addition, Un Sir Gar provided guidance and information on voluntary work that could be used as a stepping stone to finding paid employment.
Organisers were delighted with the turnout at the fair and stated that they would probably organise further similar events in the future.
There was a positive response from local job seekers, who indicated that they were helped to apply for a number of vacancies and appreciated the event happening in a tough economic climate and tight jobs market. A number of people who attended stated that the jobs fair had given them hope and that it had been a worthwhile event.
Details of the programme can be found at onecarmarthenshire.co.uk.
Fantastic, especially with the Army and Navy in attendance. Always a good career option for those that like adventure etc. Good to see that a lot of people attended – but then that could mean that there is a lot of unemployment in the area – so its hard to know how to gauge it really
