Last updated : 25 July 2012
I think I deserve a little bit more than what I earn and I am seeking a best way to ask a pay rise from my boss!
Should I write a letter or make it in an informal way?
It’s definitely worth bringing it up formally rather than just joking about it at a work social! Before you ask though, compile a small portfolio explaining why you think you deserve the payrise. For example, if you have excellent relations with clients, or you have headed up a successful project, these will go in your favour. Good luck!
Tricky question – it’s probably something I’d be a little nervous about asking my boss!
I agree with Stephanie. I’d write a brief letter including why I think I deserve a pay rise. Make your boss feel like you’re worthy of the extra pay!
