200 jobs have recently been created at a town fabrication yard, which could mean that the future of many younger people is somewhat secure. The Chancellor of the Exchequer strongly believes that this will be a good thing for many of the youth in the area. Commending Hartlepool for their good efforts, George Osbourne stating that he is “flat out†working to help unemployed people within the United Kingdom.
The announcement of the jobs was made on August 28th, and George Osbourne was present at the site in order to participate in the launching of a project worth £1.4 billion.
A project in the Heerema Hartlepool site will create 4,000 jobs until 2013. This particular site has been chosen to provide the development of the Cygnus gas field with offshore platforms.
In 25 years, Cygnus is the largest gas discovery within the Southern Gas Basin.
Bosses at the sight are “delight[ed]†to have created so many jobs, and recruitment will begin at some point next year.
Mr. Osbourne believes that the job creation is a “great boost†for the town, and will secure many futures of residents in the area.
The chief commercial officer also expressed his approval, saying that he was thrilled to “first…get the award†and then to be able to boost the economy with so many new jobs. He stated that it will serve as an “enormous boost†for Hartlepool. Mr Vinkesteijn stated that it was an honour to receive Mr Osbourne to the site, not only because of the publicity that it would bring, but because of the good impression it would give of Hartlepool.
The gas field development is expected to provide work for many people right up until 2015.
Three topsides will be constructed, and work is set to start before the year is out.
