Last updated : 1 September 2012
Managers of a busy Harrow shopping centre announced on Tuesday they will be undergoing a major refurbishment and confirmed that new job opportunities will be created in the area as a result.
The announcement made by landlords at the St George’s Shopping Centre comes just a month after Harrow council announced a £1 million refurbishment of the street outside– including new paving and street furniture.
St George’s Centre manager Darren Harman expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming project saying:
“This is a really exciting project for the centre. The new design will maximise commercial opportunities in the centre and provide a modern shopper environment.
He added;
“The refurbishment will create a better retail experience for our customers and will create jobs and opportunities in our regionâ€.
The shopping centre overhaul will perfectly compliment the councils planned street rennovation which will total £1 million, with the council setting aside £735,000 to refurbish St Anne’s Road.
The Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund will grant a further £182,000 to redesign Havelock Place creating a pedestrian link between College Road and St Ann’s Road, improving vehicle access, and refurbishing shop frontages on the street.
