Last updated : 25 September 2012
First phase of job creation plan opens in Armthorpe.
A large games and play park in Armthorpe that cost more than £600,000 to construct has opened as part of a development programme that is promising to create more than a thousand jobs in the area.
Representatives from the town’s parish council and Gazeley, the park’s developer, cut the ribbon and opened the games park in a formal ceremony. The land, which covers 22,000 sq ft in the town’s West Moor Park, includes a BMX track, a skateboard park, football pitches, basketball courts and separate play areas for toddlers and children over the age of five.
A spokesperson from Gazeley explained that all of the development phases were expected to create around 1,500 jobs in total as well as improve local facilities and encourage further investment. He added that the games park was a real reflection of the local community’s desire to continue the feel good factor that was enjoyed during the Olympics and to get more young people to play and enjoy sport on a regular basis.
The new games park is located near to a large retail area that includes companies such as Ikea, Fellowes Distribution and Next.
