Last updated : 14 January 2013
Hello,
I am a french student (in the last year of secondary school), and I will, normally, pass my exam in june. This summer, I plan to work in the United Kingdom for two months, with the main purpose of improving my english. I am not fluent in english, I think my level is intermediary. I will turn 18 on the 19th of july.
So, I would like to have an enlighment.
Could I work in the UK even if I will turn 18 in july? I know that the law allow me to work (because I’m an european student and I’m 17 past), but, does it will be easy to find a job?
If your spoken English is as decent as your written English, you should be able to find a job, although it won’t be a very high-paying job. Bars are often looking for staff, and once you turn 18, you’re legally able to serve drinks, from my understanding of it, anyway.
Another thing you might want to look out for is cleaning jobs in restaurants and supermarkets, as I do know they sometimes take on foreign students.
If you’re a female, you might want to consider getting in touch with an agency and maybe becoming an au pair – that’s always a good way to improve your English.
