Flight attendant salary and average pay rates.

Flight attendants are also known as cabin crew and involve looking after passengers on flights. It can be long haul or domestic flights, and can involve long hours with little down time. Despite being hard work, it is also incredibly rewarding and a great way to see the world. 

Your role is to ensure your passengers have an enjoyable and safe journey whilst flying with your airline. You will be the face of your company’s brand at all points and must stick to strict rules and regulations with regards uniform, behaviour and actions.  You will need to be friendly and polite at all times, even when dealing with difficult passengers. The ability to deal with problems quickly and effectively is important, as is dealing with emergency situations in a proactive manner.  Flight attendants need to work individually but also as part of the cabin crew team and liaise with the pilots. 

Your role includes advising all passengers on seating and safety information, ensuring all safety checks are carried out on the plane, serve refreshments and duty free and help passengers disembark. Flight reports and sales figures will need to be drawn up and you will also need to be ready to deal with any emergency situation that arises on the flight.

Each airline will have its own entry requirements but as a rule you will need English and Maths GCSE, excellent health and fitness, good eyesight and hearing and able to swim at least 25 metres. You should be smart and presentable with no obvious tattoos or piercings. There are normally height and weight restrictions and of course you will need a passport.

Starting salary: £12,000 – £14,000
Experienced salary: £15,000 – £21,000
Senior salary: £25,000
