Last updated : 13 September 2012
Erewash MP Jessica Lee organised a jobs fair which attracted over 900 people to apply for available jobs and get advice on getting back into work.
The event, which was held at the Novotel Hotel in Long Eaton, was attended by businesses such as Rolls-Royce, Derwent Analytics and JD Wetherspoons, from Erewash, Derby and Nottingham. The armed forces and a number of further education colleges were also there. All attending organisations were there to discuss their vacancies, apprenticeships schemes and training courses with job seekers.
Ms Lee was pleased at the success of the fair and explained that she had talked to many people on the day who had got useful contacts, interview offers or job offers from companies who had decided to interview applicants on the day. She added that this had inspired her to ensure that more jobs fairs take place in the future.
One employer states that the event had been a great success and that it had offered jobs to three people and would be interviewing more applicants in the near future, with a view to employing six people in total. Other companies were pleased with the wide age range of job seekers and the response on the day.
