Last updated : 30 September 2014
I was wondering whether recent world events had any effect on whether people want to join the army. Although there always seems to be conflict in the world, the Syria/Iraq problems are in the forefront of many peoples minds at the moment. Do thoughts of this make people feel that they want to join the army to help to protect the world from terrorism or does the danger of it all put you off joining up?
Personally the recent news stories have made me more aware of the dangers and I would not want to join up. However, it gives me a lot more respect for those people that are in the army and choosing a career that will help to protect us a country.
I think that they make people want to join the army because they want to help people. But they don’t always realise just how much at risk our armed forces are, and for this reason they should perhaps be thinking a little more carefully. Of course, there are many people who would be suited by the army life, but they certainly have to make sure that they know what type of things they’re going to have to do.
I think there are certain personalities that are suited to army life and some that are not. Therefore current events may have little bearing on whether they join up or not. However, you may not agree so let me know!
