Last updated : 30 August 2012
A £3.5 million investment in Cumbria’s rural economy will see 900 new jobs created along with nearly 500 new businesses.
South Lakes MP Tim Farron says the money will be an enourmous help in creating jobs in rural Cumbria.
Mr Farron said;
“”This is fantastic news and another success in our campaign to bring jobs and investment to Cumbria. I am doing all I can to support the economy and provide well paid jobs for our community.”
The recent investment secured for GlaxoSmithkline in Ulverston and Gilkes in Kendal will create the jobs and safeguard hundreds of others.
Farming Minister Jim Paice will visit the Blencathra Business Centre in Keswick which will be transformed into eight new work premises offering business facilities such as one-to-one advice, online training, networking opportunities and access to high speed broadband.
Cumbria is currently bidding to become a pilot Rural Growth Network and has been named alongside Devon and Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire, as winning through to become pilot schemes.
Tim Farron added;
“This bid will also help us to unlock extra funding from the private sector.”
