Last updated : 25 September 2012
Coventry development would create thousands of jobs.
An ambitious plan to develop a significant technology and distribution site beside Coventry Airport raises the prospect of creating in the region of 14,000 new jobs.
A joint proposal by the land owners and a development agency has been developed and outline planning permission is being sought to bring a range of low carbon technology, research and development, logistics and warehouse companies to the area. The plan would also involve significant landscaping and road improvements.
A further 4,000 jobs are expected to be created at a new Jaguar Land Rover site.
The proposal will receive its first consideration by Warwick District Council in December but will have to be referred to an inspector from the Department for Communities & Local Government as it breaches parts of the National Planning Policy Framework. A number of local people have already raised objections to the addition of more warehouses and concern has been expressed about building on green belt land.
A local councillor stated that the government has expressed a willingness to prioritise job creation over planning laws but that he was confident that all factors would be properly considered before a decision was made on the proposal.
