Last updated : 20 June 2013
Do you need a specific personality type to do IT? Is it worth doing an IT course unless you have the right personality?
An IT professional tends to already have an interest in IT an computers. They tend to be expected to do a lot of learning outside of work and so need to be prepared to put a lot of hours in. There tends to be an association with IT professional and being nerdy or geeky, but this is unfounded. They are not all like this, but they do tend to have a love of all things technical. Therefore if you like IT and have a willingness to learn, then doing a job in IT should suit you.
As with any job, you have to love and understand what you do. There will be people who thrive whilst working with computers, and others who will struggle to get their heads around any of the concepts that they are faced with. However this doesn’t mean that you can’t do it; you might have to work a little harder, but you could still do well in the job.
