Last updated : 7 September 2012
Loungers have submitted an application to North Somerset Council to change the use of an existing supermarket in the town of Portishead to a 130 seater cafe bar and restaurant, providing 20 new jobs.
The proposals include a conversion of part of the 9,500 square foot supermarket building into a separate retail unit and a £500,000 refurbishment offering a main restaurant on the ground floor and toilets and staff areas on the first floor.
If the scheme is approved by the local authority construction works could commence later this year with the cafe bar open during 2013. The cafe bar would be open seven days per week from 9am until 11pm.
The Loungers chain already has 26 outlets and this cafe bar would be the first in Somerset. The company was established over 10 years ago and is currently undergoing massive expansion following the backing of major investors in a multi-million pound deal.
Loungers managing director Alex Reilley said: “Portishead has a vibrant and lively High Street which you can’t help but be impressed with.
“We believe that a Loungers cafe bar will be a real addition to the High Street and will increase footfall during the day and evening and will have a positive impact on the area.”
