Last updated : 1 September 2012
Aviva, one of the worlds leading insurance companies, announced it might axe 800 UK jobs on Friday.
General insurance and life insurance jobs in middle management sectors are among those thought to be at most risk.
Aviva employees have condemed the company’s plans as “unacceptable” but the company claim the job cuts are the only way to maintain stability to the trouble hit firm.
Chief Executive John McFarlane will reduce the number of workers in various divisions across the globe helping Aviva save up to £400 million.
A company representative said of the plans:
“The vast majority of our employees will be placed into roles with little change†adding “there will also be some new roles in growth areas.”
Aviva confirmed that up to 800 roles could be at risk though it claimed that in practice the number would be fewer owing to natural turnover, voluntary redundancies, and redeployment opportunities within the company.
The company has stated it will do it best to support staff while the consultation process is underway.
