New Asda for Gloucester
Supporters of the Asda supermarket chain are hoping councillors will push through plans for a new store at Kingsway, Gloucester.
Many residents from Quedgeley and Kingsway are enthusiastically awaiting the coming of the supermarket to the area.
Developer Robert Hitchins Ltd wishes to build the store on a 4.5-acre site at the entrance to the Kingsway estate, just off the A38.
The plans were beleaguered with delays last year – but outstanding queries by planning experts have now been dealt with and councillors are ready to make their decision.
If the council back the plans, the new store will make available 230 new jobs. The 25,000 sq ft new store would be a major development for Quedgeley’s economy. It will provide competition for two nearby Tesco stores – a smaller outlet on the estate and the superstore at Quedgeley.
It is much desired by the community because of the resource it will provide, the jobs it will create and the competition it will give to the other big name retailer. The local residents have been very encouraging from the beginning.
If the residents want this, then i really hope the local councillors listen to this and pass the plans, it sounds like all the objections or queries have been answered meaning there is nothing now really that should prevent this
