Last updated : 27 September 2012
Asda has created 25 jobs in Accrington after opening a home shopping deliveries depot in the area. The move will allow the store to improve its customer service by making deliveries to homes rather than relying upon outlying stores to operate the home delivery service in the town.
The Asda store itself has been in the town for 30 years and employs more than 350 people. The improved home delivery service was introduced as a result of increasing competition from Morrisons and Tesco in the town over the last couple of years. The store manager stated that the move would benefit local customer and that he was sure that the delivery service would be a success and expand in the future.
The new department created a new staff team of 7 full-time and 18 part-time posts. New recruits were hired to work in home delivery and to replace other staff who had decided to transfer to the new department.
A representative from Hyndburn Council said that the new jobs were very welcome, adding that they had come at a time when unemployment and competition for jobs are so high in the area.
This sounds great, ASDA seem to be opening a lot more of these home delivery depots/stores, meaning more people locally can be employed, its excellent news
