Asda Creates Jobs in Gloucestershire
The UK’s second largest supermarket chain Asda is planning to build a new outlet on the edge of Lydney, Gloucestershire.
If Forest of Dean District Council approves the plans for the former Federal Mogul site, it will create 250 new jobs.
The proposed larger development of the site will provide a new factory for Federal Mogul, one of the town’s major employers, on an adjoining site. Federal Mogul is supportive of the overall plan and believes the building will help to guarantee its potential for extra growth.
If the application goes ahead a new road will be built for a dedicated bus service to the 25,000 sq ft supermarket, petrol station and the new manufacturing works.
Concerns have been raised by both the council and the general public that an out of town development such as this could draw trade away from Lydney town centre but the opportunity of new jobs would also be very welcome for the area.
Sainsbury’s also had plans for a bigger store just along the A48 from the newly proposed site but it is likely that these have been suggested for refusal by the council.
