Last updated : 11 June 2014
Aldi are pleased to announce that they are to open a new £3 million store in Skelton. The plans created by the budget retailer will create up to 30 new jobs in this new store on the green land opposite Pheasant Fields Lane.
The general public will be invited to a public exhibition in the next month so that they can find out more about Aldi’s proposals and air their views first hand. An Aldi spokesperson said that they were excited that they were planning to open a new store in Skelton and that they are very keen to be able to serve the local community and give them greater choice when they are doing their shopping.
The public exhibition allows the general public to find out more about their plans and to be able to meet the project team who will be able to answer any questions they may have. The store is going to be 15,995 square foot in size and during the construction; additional jobs will also be created which is good news for the local people of Skelton.
Aldi have been careful when creating the plans and ensuring that the store is designed so that it sits comfortably within the site they have chosen and that it complements the appearance of the surrounding area in a positive manner. The public meeting takes place on 11th June between 3-7pm at the Hollybush Hotel and Bar on Station Lane.
ASDA opened its doors in a controversial £7 million outlet in Pheasant Fields Lane in 2013 so if the Aldi store goes ahead it will be the second supermarket to open in Skelton in recent years. Asda won against rival Co-op who tried to block the move. Aldi already has stores in Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar so is building on its Teesside development. They are also planning to open a new store near to the junction of The Causeway pub and Moreland Avenue in Billingham.
