Job Description of a Recruitment Consultant
Recruitment Consultants are persons who are responsible for helping people to find employment, or help employers fill positions vacant. Recruitment Consultants are generally expected to be reasonable, fair, Level –headed and knowledgeable about various job types and the people required to fill them. The hours vary, but tend to be 8 hour shifts. Being a Recruitment Consultant is a good job for many people, but the key traits to have are a good knowledge of careers, helpful, intuitive and calm under pressure. You must be aware of the employment laws of the United Kingdom, and not be prejudiced towards anyone.
Entry Requirements
To become a Recruitment Consultant you must be able to understand the various qualification systems that we use in the United Kingdom, and you must also have a very good understanding of what different companies do, and what roles and responsibilities are expected of their employees. There are no formal requirements, but any qualification in a careers advisory based role would be beneficial.
Responsibilities and Duties
Standard duties vary from day to day. Recruitment Consultant will often be responsible for meeting with companies to find out what needs they have. You will be expected to fill the vacant positions they have with suitable employees. This will entail looking at the job description and matching clients that you have to the posts. You might also be responsible for advertising the job amongst external agencies on behalf of the client so that they get a better response. You may also work directly for job seekers, looking for suitable posts for them to apply for. You might also be responsible for head hunting employees who are already employed and get them to work for your client. Occasionally you might be expected to run a job fair or exhibition to fill a large amount of vacancies. You may also run training sessions, interviews or competency scenarios. You will usually be responsible for delivering the contracts to successful jobseekers and then passing the client to the new employer. On occasion the new employee may be paid by your company in which case you will be responsible for that employee.
Working Hours
These may vary depending on the duties and job you are doing. Many Recruitment Consultants work in offices and between the hours of 8am and 6pm. The shifts are usually 8-12 hours.
Skills and Training Development
Recruitment Consultants can expect to progress through their careers with improving skills and knowledge as well as time served. You might find yourself promoted to Chief Recruitment Consultant. If you study a foreign language or complete courses relating to different cultures, this would be vastly beneficial to your promotion potential. It would also be wise to study management, human resources or employment law, as these could offer a variety of other professions that you could branch into if you so wished.
