Salary Requirements: Cover Letter
Dear Mr Peters,
Please accept this letter as application for the Process Engineer position presently available with Battle Marine Ltd. My CV is also attached for your review and consideration.
I have 15 years experience in the field which has given me knowledge in various aspects of process engineering including: problem solving, troubleshooting, tooling set-up, performance improvement projects, and quality assurance. I am confident that my skills in these areas will prove to be an asset to Battle Marine’s manufacturing and operations division were I to be offered the opportunity.
As your advertisement asked for a salary expectation I would like to tender that my current salary requirement would range from £30,000 to £37,000, but this is very much negotiable. I believe remuneration to be one of a number of factors of job satisfaction and dependent upon structure, responsibility, and progression opportunity I would consider whatever you feel you might be able to offer.
I would be grateful to have the opportunity to meet with you to learn more about your company, its plans and goals, and how I might contribute to its continued success. I look forward to a reply at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely

Or perhaps if you need to state figures you could try this:

When replying to a job that asks about salary description, don’t be afraid to be honest. If you feel like you need a certain salary to provide for you and your family, make sure you state that you need that salary as a minimum.
If you write that you’re "happy with any salary" and then the salary is below what you’d be happy with, you’ll be disappointed and will look a bit silly then taking the employer that you’re not happy with that. You’ll be contradicting yourself and it won’t be impressive.
